Gardaí appeal for witnesses after bar worker stabbed in Cork

GARDAÍ HAVE released a statement appealing for witnesses after a man sustained a stab wound in an assault in Cork.

A man, aged in his 20's, was in a licensed premises on Paul Street, a popular area in Cork city centre, when he was assaulted.

Though Gardaí have not released the name of the pub, local reports indicate that the assault took place in the Wetherspoons bar 'The Linen Weaver'.

Gardaí have indicated that the man was working in the pub when he was attacked.

Gardaí and emergency services, including an ambulance, attended the scene at approximately 6.25pm on Sunday, 1 March following reports that a man had been stabbed while working.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital to receive treatment for non life threatening injuries.

A second man, also aged in his 20's, remained at the scene, where he was arrested and taken to Bridewell Garda Station for questioning.

He is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Investigating gardaí are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault to come forward.
