Gardai hunt for 'strange man' who asked 11-year-old girl to 'go for walk' with him while she played in garden

GARDAI are on the hunt for a man who allegedly asked an 11-year-old to leave her home and "go for a walk" with him.

The strange man reportedly approached the young girl while she was playing in the front garden of her family home near Mahon Point, Co. Cork on Monday.

According to Cork Beo, the man was wearing a t-shirt with a cartoon character on it, as well as navy tracksuit bottoms and sandals.

Fortunately, the girl's mother came outside to lead her daughter away, and pursued the man down the street as he ran off, taking a photograph of him as she did.

The guards were called, who later patrolled the area but admitted that no arrests had been made.

"Gardai are investigating a suspicious approach incident that occurred at approximately 11am on the 27th July, 2020 at Jacobs Island, Blackrock, Co. Cork," a gardai spokesperson said.

"Gardai carried out a patrol of the area after the incident was reported but no arrests were made.

"Investigation ongoing."
