Incredible pictures show Britain and Ireland's sea life

EARLIER this month, divers took to the waters around Britain and Ireland with their cameras.

They had one mission - to capture scenes of underwater life and activity for the British and Irish Underwater Photography Championship - and the results are incredible.

Unique sea life, shipwrecks and pictures of fellow divers were all captured and now the winners have been announced.

Charles Erb, from the West Midlands in Britain, was named the overall winner, winning a five-day dive trip to Marsa Nakari in Egypt.

Meanwhile Dublin-based Marco Salino was the top Irish competitor, named best newcomer.

The championships took place on September 5 all over Britain and Ireland and the runners-up shared £4,000 worth of prizes.

In all, 55 photographers competed in the competition and 12 prize-winners were named.
