Irish girl, 16, dies after being knocked down by car on New Year's Eve as Gardaí appeal for witnesses

A TEENAGE GIRL who was seriously injured after being struck down by a car on New Year's Eve has tragically passed away.

The horrific incident occurred on Main Street in Ballincollig, Co. Cork shortly before 8pm on the evening of Monday, December 31.

Roisin O’Donovan, 16, was pronounced dead at Cork University Hospital late last night on New Year's Day.

The driver of the car involved in the collision was uninjured.

The road where the schoolgirl was knocked down was closed again yesterday to facilitate a technical examination of the scene.

Investigating Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward and get in contact.
