Irish man faces jail over £14million 'brazen' Hatton Garden jewellery raid

AN IRISH man is one of three gang members to be found guilty over last Easter’s £14million Hatton Garden raid.

Hugh Doyle, 48, of Riverside Gardens, Enfield, who is originally from Dublin, was found guilty of concealing and converting or transferring criminal property on Thursday, January 14 at Woolwich Crown Court.

The self-employed heating engineer faces jail along with William Lincoln, 60, of Winkley Street, Bethnal Green and Carl Wood, 58, of Elderbeck Close, Cheshunt, who were both found guilty of similar charges and conspiracy to burgle.

Seven men broke into a Hatton Garden vault over Easter bank holiday weekend in 2015 and stole around £14million in gold and jewellery.

Almost £3.7million worth of goods have since been recovered for the Hatton Garden jewellers, many of whom had put their stock in the vaults during the bank holiday.

A man named ‘Basil’ is still wanted in connection with the burglary.

The Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad have offered a £20,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction, and recovery of the remaining jewellery.

Detective Superintendent Craig Turner, the Head of the Met's Flying Squad, said: "This was a thorough and complicated investigation which meticulously linked the gang together.

“The weight of evidence was so strong that half the gang chose to plead guilty. It was an audacious, brazen burglary that was some three years in the planning.”

Four men had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle: Terry Perkins, 67, of Heene Road, Enfield, John Collins, 75, of Blestoe Walk, Islington, Daniel Jones, 58, of Park Avenue, Enfield, and Brian Reader, 76, of Dartford Road, Dartford.

All seven men are due to be sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court in the second week of March.

Two others pleaded guilty last April to conspiracy to conceal, convert or transfer criminal property: Brenn Walters, 44, of Manor Court, Enfield and Terri Robinson, 35, of Sterling Road, Enfield, and both due to be sentenced at the end of March.
