SOMETHING very simple happened to me just the other day and yet at the same time it felt like something of some magnitude.
I was just about to leave a café in the nearest small town to where we live. I was seated at an outdoor table. I stood up and turned to leave.
As I turned to leave I noticed that a man was standing at a table just a few yards away talking to the people sitting while there.
He had a jacket that he was holding over one shoulder and a brown shopping bag in the other hand. It was a fine warm day.
And the man was the Taoiseach. Micheál Martin.
Now, he does have a holiday home in this area so it is not unheard of for him to be seen and I’m not mentioning this as some sort of celebrity sighting.
I should mention too that I think one man standing back a little, very unobtrusively, was probably his security...
