Irish model could face jail in Thailand over World Cup betting ads

AN Irish model based in Bangkok is at risk of being jailed after allegedly promoting World Cup gambling sites.

19-year-old Jessie Vard was arrested after appearing to promote betting sites on her phone, which is an illegal act in Thailand.

Local reports suggest she confessed to violating anti-gambling laws, an offence which carries a maximum penalty of a year in prison and/or a fine of €30.

Originally from Drum Irish, Co Donegal, she moved to Bangkok as a child and recently established a career as a glamour model.

She was reportedly among 15 models who were summoned to court for their involvement with the sites.

Ms Vard claimed she did not know the activity was illegal.

The 15 models have all been released on bail and will be sentenced later this month.
