Irish tourist, 18, fighting for life in hospital after plunging from hotel balcony in Majorca

A YOUNG Irish tourist is in a serious condition in hospital after falling from a hotel balcony on the Spanish island of Majorca.

The 18-year-old man plunged from the second-floor of Apartamentos Deya in Santa Ponça shortly before 6am this morning, reports local newspaper Ultima Hora.

Witnesses quickly notified the emergency services and paramedics rushed to the scene.

Patrols of the Spanish Civil Guard and local police from nearby Calvià also responded, adds Diariode Mallorca.

According to Mallorca Diario, the young man was found to have suffered significant injuries to his hip and spine after landing near an area of toilets.

The Irishman was immediately transferred to Son Espases Hospital on the island after being stabilised by ambulance workers.

He remains there in a serious condition.

The Civil Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The teenager involved has been named as Padraig Morgan from west Belfast.
