Irishman (20s) dies in accident in Costa del Sol

AN IRISHMAN has died in an accident in Spain.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that an Irish man has been killed in an accident in the Costa del Sol resort in Marbella.

The tragic accident is believed to have occurred in the early hours of  this morning, Tuesday 28 July.

The victim, who is understood to be a man aged in his early 20s, died following a road traffic accident.

Details of the incident are scarce, however The Journal reports that the incident which killed the young man left at least one of his friends badly injured with a broken leg.

A local coachman who took the young man and his friends out on a horse and carriage hours before the accident told The Journal that the group had been in great spirits and seemed like decent young men.

"They were all behaving well and having fun," Coachman Jose Jiminez Zamora said.

"There were three men in my coach and three more men in the coach behind. There were no problems at all,” he said.

It is not known whether the man was a holidaymaker or lived in the area.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance, according to RTÉ News.
