Irishwoman to meet Armenian man who received her charity shoebox 16 years ago

AN Armenian man is to fly to Ireland, to meet the woman who sent him a charity shoebox 16 years ago.

Arsen Khachatryan received a shoebox filled with toys and treats as part of a charity appeal from Ireland when he was a child and always wanted to thank the girl who sent it.

Now, thanks to Team Hope, the Irish charity behind the shoebox appeal, he will meet her and be able to thank her in person.

Included in the box was a letter from the eight-year-old girl who sent it over, Claire Fahy, which Mr Khachatryan treasured.

In recent months, he decided to track down Fahy to thank her personally for the gift.

Last week, he successfully contacted her on Facebook.

“I kept that letter for over 15 years and I always wanted to express my gratitude for that gift-box,” Mr Khachatryan wrote. “I hope that you are the woman who I try to find.”

“In case you are not that woman, please respond to me, so I can continue my search for her,” he added.

Team Hope described the message as “an amazing example of the impact Shoebox gifts can have”.

The pair will meet in Ireland later this year.
