Leo Varadkar sends virtual congratulations as Irish woman receives Covid-19 vaccine on 101st birthday

AN IRISH woman has received a very important gift on her 101st birthday in the form of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Ms Mary Kelly celebrated her milestone birthday in style yesterday as he attended the Navan Road Medical practice to receive her Covid-19 vaccine.

At the practice, which is part of the Centric Health group, Ms Kelly was gifted with a bunch of flowers as well as pink helium balloons which spelled out her highly impressive age.

And, as Ms Kelly received the dose of the potentially life-saving vaccine, she was also surprised with a birthday message from Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, who appeared via video link to wish her a very happy 101st birthday.

A spokesperson for Centric Health took to Twitter to share an image of birthday girl Mary Kelly, writing:

"Centenarian Mary Kelly, celebrating her 101st birthday today, at Navan Road Medical had a surprise Birthday address from Tanaiste Leo Varadkar while receiving her first Covid 19 vaccine along with the most senior patient at the practice, Ms Elizabeth Gorman, also 101 years old."

The photograph shows Ms Kelly clutching a bouquet of flowers as her birthday balloons float next to her and Tániste Mr Varadkar appears on  TV screen behind her.

It will certainly be a birthday to remember.
