‘A lovely young man so full of life’ – teen who died in Donegal crash named

A TEENAGER who died in a single-vehicle crash in Donegal has been named as Jamie Doherty from Moville.

The 14-year-old, the eldest of three children, died when the car he was driving crashed on a minor road between Moville and Redcastle on Friday evening.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash and the teenager was the only occupant in the car.

On Saturday evening, Jamie’s school opened its doors to offer support to the teenager’s classmates.

In a statement, Moville Community College said: “It is with deep regret and sadness that we learned of the death of Jamie Doherty, a 2nd Year student in Moville Community College. As a school community we would like to reach out to all who are affected by Jamie’s death.”

It added that another support session for students would take place at the school on Monday evening.

People have been paying tribute to Jamie and offering their condolences to his family on the school’s parents’ association Facebook page.

One wrote: "R.I.P Jamie you were a lovely young man and so full of life. My thoughts and prayers are with all your family and friends.”

"RIP Jamie, condolences to his family and friends. And to the rest of second year pupils my heart is breaking for you losing a friend so suddenly,” added another.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to Letterkenny University Hopital.

Gardaí at Buncrana have carried out a forensic examination of the scene.
