Man, 60s, dies after multi-vehicle crash involving at least three cars in Cork

A MAN in his 60s has died and a man in his 20s is in a serious condition in hospital after a multi-vehicle crash in Co. Cork.

The incident occurred on the N22 at Carrigaphooca near Macroom shortly after 1pm today and involved at least three cars.

The deceased, who was driving one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the wheel and his body has been removed from the scene.

The younger man, who drove a second car, was airlifted from the scene to University Hospital Cork (UHC) with serious injuries.

Both men were the sole occupants of the cars they were driving.

The occupants of a third car were uninjured.

Garda forensic collision investigators remain at the scene examining the crash site this evening.

Local diversions are in place and the N22 is not expected to re-open for a number of hours.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary at UHC for a post-mortem examination.

The local Coroner has also been notified.
