Man, 60s, killed after being struck by a car in County Cavan

GARDAÍ HAVE appealed for the public's assistance after a man tragically lost his life in an incident in County Cavan last night.

The unnamed man, who is aged in his 60s, was struck by a car at around 9pm last night, 8 September, on the R198.

It is believed the victim was walking between Coras Point and Cavan town at the time he was critically injured.

His body was removed to Cavan General Hospital for a post-mortem examination which is due to take place later today.

Gardaí have not made any indication that this was a hit and run incident.

They also confirmed that no other injuries were reported following the collision.

In a statement in the early hours of this morning, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána appealed for witnesses into the incident, particularly anyone with dash-cam footage, to come forward and assist with the investigation into the man's tragic death.

The spokesperson said:

"Gardaí are particularly appealing to any road users who were travelling between Cavan town and Crossdoney between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Wednesday evening, and who may have camera (dash cam) footage to make it available."

Investigations into the incident are continuing this morning, and the scene is currently preserved for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

The R198 is closed and local diversions are in place.
