Man (70s) due in court in relation to 1981 murder of mother-of-three Nora Sheehan

A MAN aged in his 70s has been arrested in relation to the murder of Nora Sheehan, who was killed in Cork 41 years ago.

Gardaí arrested the man on Tuesday morning.

Nora Sheehan, a mother-of-three, was aged 54 when her body was found at Shippool, Innishannon, Co Cork on 12 June, 1981.

She was last seen alive outside the South Infirmary Hospital, Cork at 9.45pm on 6 June.

She had been missing for over a week at the time and in recent years a Serious Crime Review team had been investigating the case.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí in Bandon have arrested a man (early 70s) this morning, Tuesday 28th June, 2022 in relation to the murder of Nora Sheehan, Ballyphehane, Co. Cork between the 6th and 12th June, 1981.

“The man was arrested this morning and is due to appear before Skibbereen District Court at 12 midday today, Tuesday 28th June, 2022 charged in relation to the murder.

Investigations are ongoing.
