Murder investigation launched following discovery of body in Co. Down house

POLICE have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a man’s body at a property in Banbridge, Co. Down.

The body of the man, aged in his 50s, was discovered at a house in Millmount Street at around 4.50pm on Monday.

A 28-year-old man, who was arrested on Monday night, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan, of the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch, is leading the investigation.

“I am appealing to anyone who has any information to contact police,” he said.

“I am particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the area of Millmount Court on the evenings of Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7 and noticed anything suspicious.”

Speaking after the launch of the investigation, Sinn Féin MLA for Upper Bann, John O’Dowd, said: “First and foremost, I want to send my sympathies to the man’s family and friends.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they deal with the tragic and sudden loss of a loved one.

“Anyone with information about the circumstances surrounding the death should bring it to the PSNI immediately.”
