Pierce Brosnan congratulates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on US election win

PIERCE BROSNAN has congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their historic election win.

The James Bond star extended his congratulations to the Democrat candidates, who on Saturday were announced the winners of the 2020 Presidential elections.

While votes are still being counted due to a backlog of Mail-In ballots, Biden was called as the winner last week as he had won more than 270 Electoral College votes.

Much of Ireland were hoping for a Biden win, in part to see another Irish-American in the White House, and Drogheda-born Brosnan is no different.

On Monday, he posted a picture of Mr Biden and Ms Harris to Instagram alongside the caption:

"Congratulations to President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris."

The simple message has caused some controversy however, as current President Donald Trump has refused to concede the election, claiming large-scale voter fraud as the reason he was beaten.

Many of his followers are also reusing to recognise the election results, and some of the comments underneath Brosnan's congratulatory post were ones of anger or denial.

One user wrote: "But they are not [elected]. Votes still being counted & recounted. The media doesn’t decide the election."

Others posted angry emojis, with one user simply posting a series of 'puking' emojis.

But others still joined Brosnan in congratulating the two candidates:

"Let the healing begin! God bless America!", one person wrote, while another said the results were "Amazing for America and also for the whole world."
