'Rest in peace beautiful Melody' - Ed Sheeran pays tribute to late Croydon schoolgirl

The 'Thinking Out Loud' star has said goodbye to one of his biggest fans.

Ed Sheeran has paid tribute to 11-year-old Melody Driscoll as she lost her battle with Rett syndrome, a life-limiting and rare genetic disorder that causes mental and physical disability.

27-year-old singer visited Driscoll in Epsom Hospital in November 2016 as she bravely fought her condition.

Speaking to BBC, Mrs Driscoll's husband Nigel said the family were "devastated".

"We are so, so proud of her," he added.

"She has put so many smiles on people's faces and it is a story which has put a lot of things into perspective."

Second generation Irish star Sheeran paid his condolences to the young girl by sharing a photo on Instagram, writing: "Rest in peace beautiful Melody x".
