Ruth Davidson and Irish partner Jen Wilson 'overjoyed' at expecting first child

SCOTTISH CONSERVATIVES leader Ruth Davidson and her Irish partner Jen Wilson are expecting a baby.

Ms Davidson, who is three months pregnant, teased the announcement on social media, posting a picture of herself, Ms Wilson and their pet dog with the comment: “Our little family of three is becoming four....”

Ms Wilson, 36, is originally from Co. Wexford and has lived in Britain since 2003.

The couple have been together since 2014 and announced their engagement in May 2016 after Ms Davidson proposed in Paris.

Ms Davidson, 39, revealed the couple are nervous but excited about the future arrival.

“Jen and I are delighted to announce that I am expecting our first child in the late autumn,” she said.

“Like all new parents-to-be, we are excited – and daunted – about the months to come.

“Mostly, we are just overjoyed about the prospect of starting a family together.”

Ms Davidson revealed her deputy, Jackson Carlaw, would stand in for her while she was on maternity leave.

She added: “Jen and I are incredibly lucky in the support we have received from our family and friends over the past few months – and we know [we] can rely on them in the months and years to come.

“I’d like to thank them all again today.

“We have always dreamed of starting a family and are so pleased to be able to share our happy news.”
