Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald had an unfortunate typo in her election leaflet

SINN FÉIN deputy leader Mary Lou McDonald was left red-faced at the weekend over a rather unfortunate typo on her election leaflet.

The Dublin TD made the gaffe when sharing an inspirational quote from Hunger Striker Bobby Sands - but one misplaced letter led to her leaflet going viral for all the wrong reasons.

McDonald sent the first of her election literature across Ireland ahead of the general election on February 26.

In an ode to the centenary of the Easter Rising, McDonald urged voters to "join a new Rising, one that puts citizens first".

But she goes on to say: "Booby Sands once said that ‘Everyone, republican or otherwise has their part to play’.”

Of course, eagle-eyed Twitter users were not going to let McDonald away with that typo...

McDonald herself reacted to the error only to chastise Fine Gael member Dan McInerney, who was one of the many to tweet the #BoobySands hashtag.

In response to McInerney's photoshop trickery featuring McDonald and a scene from the TV show Friends, McDonald tweeted about his "gurrier" politics.
