Three people, including two children, die after car enters lake in Donegal

THREE PEOPLE have been killed in a crash in County Donegal.

The tragic accident took place near Three Trees in Quigley's Point, a village on the Inishowen Peninsula, Donegal, at around 10.30pm last night.

The driver, a man aged 49, and two children, a 14-year-old boy and a six-year-old, died after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and entered the waters of Lough Foyle.

A woman in her 40's managed to escape from the car and raised the alarm.

Emergency services were called, but despite best efforts to save their lives, the man and two children were tragically pronounced dead.

Their bodies have been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.

The woman who escaped the vehicle has also been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí and the emergency services have closed the area surrounding the crash site to allow for a forensic examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for information into the the tragic crash, and have urged any potential witnesses to come forward, particularly those who may have dashcam footage of the incident.
