VIDEO: Man shot dead at weigh-in ahead of boxing event in Dublin

A MAN has been killed in a shooting at a weigh-in ahead of a World Boxing Organisation title fight in Dublin on Friday.

The incident took place at Dublin’s Regency Hotel at around 14:30 and two other men are reported to have been injured from possible gunshot wounds, according to BBC.

The WBO European Lightweight bout between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Joao Bento, which was scheduled to take place at the city’s National Boxing Stadium on Saturday night, has now been cancelled, broadcasters BoxNation have confirmed.

It is believed the gunmen used AK47 assault rifles and carried out the act whilst dressed in police-style uniforms, but a motive is yet to be determined by detectives, although RTÉ suggest it could be connected to the murder of Gary Hutch, who was shot dead in Spain last September.

London-based boxer Kavanagh, a Dublin native, has since tweeted that he escaped the incident unscathed.

Meanwhile, shocking mobile phone footage has emerged of the moment the gunmen entered the room.
