Woman who chewed part of a woman's ear off sentenced to prison

AN ENGLISH woman has been jailed after biting a part of a woman’s ear off.

27 year old Chloe Hammond of Denham Vale, Rayleigh, Essex was sentenced to five years in prison at Southwark Crown Court.

She was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a trial at the same court in October.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, 19 March, when the victim – a woman in her mid 50’s – was with a group of people who were crossing the road in Temple Place, WC2.

Ms. Hammond was driving her silver Audi TT at the time when she began beeping at the group crossing the street.

She was on the phone while stopped in traffic, so the victim tapped on the window of her car and suggested to her to get off her phone.

This angered Hammond, who started to swear at the victim.

She then left the car and pursued the victim, kicking her in the stomach and viciously biting off a piece of her ear before spitting it on the floor.

Shocking mobile phone footage captured the moment Hammond clamped her teeth down on the victim's ear, shaking her head about “like a dog with a chew toy”, before spitting the severed flesh on to the pavement.

Ms. Hammond then returned to her car and fled the scene.

Detectives from Westminster CID began an investigation and Hammond was traced and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent on Wednesday, 3 May.

Detective Constable Ryan Wilkinson, of Westminster CID, said: “This was a vicious and unnecessary assault. To kick a woman in the stomach and then bite off her ear, for no other reason than she was asked to get off the phone while driving seems incredible.

“Hammond has now been brought to account for her vile actions and I hope that the victim can gain some satisfaction from the lengthy term of imprisonment imposed on her attacker.”
