Woman handcuffed and tied to bath during burglary in Co. Antrim

A WOMAN in her 50s had her wrists bound with cable ties and handcuffs before being tied to a bath during a burglary in Co. Antrim.

The harrowing ordeal took place last night in Carrickfergus, around 10 miles from Belfast.

Three men gained entry to the property, where the woman was alone, just before midnight.

They stolen a sum of cash and a number of pieces of jewellery before fleeing.

Detective Sergeant Peter Crothers said the victim was left shaken by the incident.

“She was eventually able to free herself and raised the alarm at 12.45am,” he said.

“Although she wasn’t physically hurt in the incident, the woman was left badly shaken.

“The three males were all described as wearing dark clothing, with their faces covered and wearing gloves.”

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area between 11.30pm last night and 12.30am this morning, or who has any information, should contact 101 quoting reference number 69 of 27/5/18.
