Cameron claims Taylor is 'avoiding' facing her in third bout

Chantelle Cameron has claimed that Katie Taylor is looking to "avoid" fighting her in their third bout.

Bray native Taylor suffered her only loss of her professional career to England's Cameron last May at the 3Arena in Dublin. Cameron won via a majority decision and was the favourite coming into the fight.

However, Taylor showed immense courage in the rematch and spirit to avenge her first defeat in the sport. She won by a majority decision to become a two-weight undisputed champion in the sport and has cemented her status as one of Ireland's best-ever sportspersons.

The win means that Taylor now holds the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO light-welterweight belts, and the likelihood of a rematch and trilogy fight is still on the cards.

Cameron, the Northampton native, has sensationally claimed that Taylor looks like she is trying to avoid her and that she has also accepted a smaller purse to fight Taylor for the third time.

"Just an update on talks with the Katie fight. I have agreed to a massive purse reduction to make this fight happen financially, as this was what I was told was the holdup from the fight being agreed," Cameron said via her Instagram.

"The reason is that I wanted to create my own legacy.

"Now it looks like Katie will take a "keep busy" fight and avoid me, as I think she knows that certain things that went her way in the last fight won't happen again.

"Sorry to the actual boxing fans who wanted to see this fight, but the trilogy not happening is down to Katie and her team and not me."

Fans have responded to Cameron's comments on her post. One fan said, "She's already lost 2 fights against you; only one of the losses was that she used her head quite well and robbed you of a clean fight. Eddie didn't want his golden girl to get beat twice by you."

Another said, "Katie won’t fight unless it’s at the bottom of her garden with 99% tickets allocated to her."

While others have defended Taylor, claiming she doesn't need to prove anything to anyone,

"Let's not start making out like Katie Taylor Ducks. Anyone, come on, Cameron is a top fighter, but so is Katie. Both are a credit to the sport. Katie Taylor doesn't have to prove anything to anybody."

Discussions over a final venue are still ongoing. The 3 Arena had been touted as the venue for May 25, but that has not been confirmed yet.
