Carragher lauds 'real deal' Ferguson after his goal last weekend

FORMER LIVERPOOL PLAYER Jamie Carragher has claimed that Evan Ferguson is the real deal after his goal on the opening day against Luton Town on Saturday.

Ferguson had an excellent debut season for Brighton & Hove Albion last year and seems to have picked up where he left off. A close-range finish to cap off a 4-1 win over Luton has once again got people talking about the Irish striker's talents.

The likes of Match of the Day pundit Gary Lineker, not for the first time, has raved about the Meath native. He tweeted out that Ferguson should be a replacement for Harry Kane. Kane has just left to move to Germany.

Brighton are one of the best clubs in England for buying cheap and selling for more than double their price. For example, Moises Caicedo signed for Chelsea in a deal that could rise to €134 million on Monday. They had signed the midfielder for £5 million nearly two years ago.

Many people feel that Ferguson will be Brighton's next big sale. Ferguson's former club Bohemians also stand to make a fortune from a big fee. They have a sell-on fee for Ferguson that is reported to be between 10 and 15%.

Carragher also holds a similar view to many that the Irish star will be sold for a huge price tag down the line.

"Evan Ferguson is the centre forward. You talk about Brighton bringing players into the club through the ranks and selling them on for big money," said the pundit on the Gary Neville Podcast:

"I'm sure he will be there for the next couple of years, but he looks the real deal every time I watch him. Don't forget, as a young player, could you imagine the education he is getting from that manager, Roberto De Zerbi?

"He looks like a top manager, doesn’t he? You see the way the team plays, not necessarily with the best players in the world. The football they play, he is a manager now where a lot of teams are studying the way Brighton plays and trying to implement that into their game. He is still new to the Premier League himself.

"I think that lad he has got up front, I think he's pretty special. He is only going to get better with him as his manager."

Brighton's next game will be against Wolves on Saturday.
