Chelsea linked with promising 17-year-old Irish defender

THIS WOULD be a great move for the young Irishman.

Seán Roughan has made quite the impression at Lincoln City this season.

The young lad signed his first professional contract on 28 July 2020 following a successful spell in the Lincoln City academy.

Since then, he played 11 times for the League One side this season, and he has clearly caught the eye of some of Britain's biggest clubs.

Chelsea are said to be interested in signing the young man, while he has also been on trial at Southampton over the past number of days.

According to The 42, he is beginning a week-long trial with the Blues and is set to feature in a friendly for their U23 team later this week.

The 17-year-old from Swords was so highly valued by Lincoln that his club recruited an Irish language tutor so he could continue his studies over there.

So not only is he clearly highly rated, but he has his screwed on too.

He earned his first Republic of Ireland U17 cap against Switzerland in February.

He is versatile and can play in any number of positions across the pitch, but if he is to go to a top Premier League side, he would gain some valuable coaching both in defense or as a winger.
