Eamon Dunphy apologises for using 'F' word during live World Cup coverage

EAMON Dunphy has spoken of his regret over his swearing outburst during RTÉ’s World Cup coverage on Tuesday night.

The RTÉ pundit apologised for using the ‘F’ word live on air during coverage of the Brazil v Mexico game earlier in the week, claiming he thought the show was on an ad break.

He said: "I used the 'f' word and it's not right. I am very conscious that kids were watching and you can't normalise that kind of language as we are broadcasters.

"I reflected on it and it was obviously wrong, although in the great scheme of things I didn't libel or defame anyone.

“There were no callers complaining and people on social media were generally sympathetic. I think they realised it was a mistake."

Fellow commentator Didi Hamann was also caught off guard during the show, and was seen checking his phone whilst live on air.
