FAI to review Ireland's WC perfomances and Vera Pauw's contract in coming weeks

The FAI announced today that they will be conducting a review of Ireland's performance in the Women's World Cup in the upcoming weeks. This review will also include an assessment of the future of the Irish national team's head coach, Vera Pauw.

In this year's World Cup, Ireland finished at the bottom of their group, managing to score only one goal and obtaining a single point in their final game against Nigeria.

There is increasing speculation that Vera Pauw might not continue as the head coach for future campaigns beyond the 2023 World Cup, and it appears that her position may be in jeopardy.

When questioned about her future with the team, Vera Pauw, the former Houston Dash coach, disclosed before the Nigeria game that there had been no indication of a contract extension or any form of communication with the FAI. She remarked on Monday that "That situation has not changed."

Tomorrow, the Republic of Ireland Women's National Team will receive a public reception on Thursday evening, August 3, at O’Connell Street in front of the GPO, starting at 6:30 pm.

In an official statement, Ireland's governing body congratulated the team for their efforts during the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, expressing gratitude to the players, management, and staff. They also extended their appreciation to Irish fans worldwide and in Australia for their outstanding support.

"The Football Association of Ireland would like to congratulate the players, management and staff of the Ireland Women’s National Team on their performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and to thank all Irish fans both at home, around the world and in Australia for their magnificent support," they said in a press release this week

The FAI eagerly anticipates celebrating the team with fans at the homecoming event on O’Connell Street in Dublin the following evening.

Additionally, the FAI declared that they will undertake a thorough and comprehensive review of the campaign and tournament now that the World Cup journey has concluded, as per their standard procedure. This review will be discussed during the next FAI Board Meeting in the upcoming weeks.

"We look forward to celebrating the team with fans at the Homecoming event on O’Connell Street in Dublin tomorrow evening," they added.  "With our World Cup journey at an end, the FAI will now undertake a full and comprehensive review of the campaign and tournament, as is our standard practice, and this will be discussed at the next FAI Board Meeting in the coming weeks."
