Round-up: How the British GAA youth teams got on at the 2016 Féile

SOUTH LONDON brought the Division 3 Boys Féile Under 14 Football title across the Irish Sea after a brilliant event in Kerry, Cork and Limerick last weekend.

Six hundred games took place over the three days, with over 5,700 players representing 240 teams involved.

South London claimed a clean sweep of wins in the Boys’ Division 3 to take cup honours, registering a 2-2 to 0-6 win over Lucan Sarsfields in the final at John Mitchels, Ballyseedy.

In the group stages, they recorded victories over Butlersbridge (0-5 to 0-2); Newcastle West (2-6 to 0-2) and Fr Caseys (3-4 to 0-5).

South London were comfortable 4-5 to 0-1 winners over Kanturk in the quarter-final, and 3-4 to 1-3 winners over Naomh Éanna in the last four clash.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for North London in the Division 4 decider, losing to Éire Óg Greystones by 1-8 to 0-4 in the final.

Earlier, North London drew with the Wicklow side 2-3 apiece in the group stages, before recording wins over Kilcummin (4-10 to 1-1); Beaufort (3-4 to 1-8); Ibane Gaels (2-3 to 0-6) and St Molaise Gaels (1-7 to 1-4) to advance to the final.

In Division 6, Gloucestershire lost their Shield quarter-final with a 4-9 to 1-1 loss to eventual finalists Horeswood.

Three British GAA sides were involved in Division 8, with Hertfordshire and Warwickshire advancing to semi-finals.

Hertfordshire were 1-5 to 0-1 winners over Boston in the quarter-final, but lost to 1-3 to 1-2 to Keel/Listry in the last four.

A 23-strong U14 squad represented Herts and they started their quest for the Division 8 Cup on Friday morning, defeating Armagh's Tullysaran by four points. This win was closely followed by a nerve-racking but hotly contested battle with Cork’s Donoughmore, ending with both teams at 1-7 apiece.

It was an impressive first day for the lads in green and gold. A further push on Saturday meant the defeat of host club White's Cross and concluded with Herts youngsters seeing off American representatives Boston in the following quarter-final.

An outstanding performance to this point meant the youngsters took part in the annual Feile gathering in Kanturk that evening, and in the company of other clubs from across Ireland, America and the UK.

Sunday morning saw Herts come agonisingly close, finishing up within a point of a final in another tooth and nail clash versus Keel/Listry in Gneeveguilla.

The U14’s returned from Feile in good spirits and with gratitude to their Cork-based host club White's Cross. It was a sterling effort from all involved and players have next year’s action to look forward to.

Meanwhile, Warwickshire claimed a 0-6 to 0-2 win over Donoughmore, but lost to eventual winners Currow by 1-11 to 1-2 in the semi-final, while Scotland and Lancashire both lost in Shield quarter-finals.

A hat-trick helped Tubbercurry/Cloonacool advance with a 3-3 to 0-4 win over Scotland, while Lancashire lost to Cordal/Scartaglin by 1-8 to 1-3.

In Girls’ Football, London, Lancashire and Scotland took part in Division 6.

All three sides advanced to the knockout stages of the Shield competition, with London beating Lancashire by 1-8 to 0-2 in the quarter-final, but losing to Kingscourt by 6-7 to 0-1 in the semi-final.

Scotland unfortunately were unable to field for their semi-final against Castlegregory.
