Impressive St Brendan’s claim Division Two win

St Brendan's 3-13

St Mary's 0-4

ST BRENDAN'S made it two wins in a row as they took on St Mary’s at a blustery Pairc na hÉireann.

After a fairly even first-half Brendan’s took charge in the second half.  Midfielder Dan McAndrew was impressive throughout for Brendan’s starting the scoring with a 30 metre effort before Jack Jeffcott beavered his way through the Wolverhampton defence to place a shot beyond John McLoughlin.

Sean Mills twice went close on goal, the second a flick on from a Dermot Doherty drive that rebounded back off the crossbar.  Mills was to make amends with two points either side of half-time that were followed by his side’s second goal as Darren McGovern pounced from point-blank range to fire home.

With the surging wind at their backs in the closing half hour Brendan’s penned their opponents in and went in search of more scores. Another decent strike from McAndrew sailed over, and further points from Jeffcott and substitute Sean Doyle extended the advantage before Moss Hartnett sprinted across the 45 to fire an excellent effort over the bar. A finely judged forty-five from Jeffcott took his total for the day to 1-5, while at the other end Brian McDaid went agonisingly close to a consolation goal as he crashed a 20-metre belter off the crossbar.

Two late scores from Finbar Geraghty and Sean Doyle – the latter latching onto a bouncing ball to tap it past McLoughlin and into the net for goal number three – rounded off a profitable afternoon for Brendan’s. Erin go Bragh now lead the Division outright after they emerged from their top of the table clash at Holbrooks against Four Masters with a two-point win.
