Northern Ireland track cyclist run off road and into barbed wire fence

A YOUNG up-and-coming Northern Irish track cyclist has been injured after being forced off the road and into a barbed wire fence.

18-year-old Xeno Young from Lisburn, Co. Antrim, had just returned home from the Commonwealth Games where he competed in the men’s pursuit, the points race and the scratch race, when he was injured while out training near his home yesterday.

A tweet by Powerhouse Sport showed a picture of Xeno’s arm with a ripped sleeve and a cut just below the shoulder.

According to the tweet, the driver claimed that he ‘didn’t see him’.

It ends with the hashtags ‘share the road and ‘open your eyes’.

Young was recently awarded Young Player of the Year by the Belfast Telegraph.
