Rachael Blackmore: 'It's an honour to win MBE'

Irish racing legend Rachael Blackmore has admitted that it was an 'honour' to receive an MBE for her successful efforts in horseracing. The Tipperary native was awarded the title this week.

At the age of 33, Blackmore achieved remarkable success, securing victory in the 2021 Grand National on Minella Times and triumphing in the 2022 Cheltenham Gold Cup riding A Plus Tard. Her accomplishments were particularly groundbreaking as she became the first female jockey to claim victory in both prestigious National Hunt racing events.

In addition to these remarkable wins, Blackmore claimed the title of leading rider at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival and received the esteemed BBC Sports Personality's World Sport Star of the Year award in the same year.

Her partnership with the Henry de Bromhead-trained mare, Honeysuckle, further solidified Blackmore's legacy. Together, they achieved an astounding 17 victories out of 19 races, including two Champion Hurdles at Cheltenham.

Honorary MBEs are given to those who are from outside of the UK but who excel in their field in Britain.

"It’s an honour to see my racing achievements being recognized in this way," said Blackmore. "I have had some of the best days of my career racing in England. Cheltenham and Aintree have provided me with incredibly special days that I will never forget. I feel so lucky to get to ride the horses that I do; this award really is a privilege to receive.'"
