Robert De Zerbi on Evan Ferguson: 'I think he will become one of the best strikers in the Premier League'

Brighton & Hove Albion's Robert De Zerbi believes that Evan Ferguson can become one of the 'best strikers' in the Premier League.

Ferguson has had a stellar Premier League season, scoring six goals. His brace against Southampton last weekend also brought his tally in all competitions to 16 for the season. This tally also included a debut Ireland goal against Latvia back in March.

Fans of the Irish national team truly believe that Ferguson could emulate Ireland's record goalscorer, Robbie Keane, one day.

De Zerbi throughout the season has been keen to temper expectations around the 19-year-old's potential in the past, but speaking on Sky Sports this week, the Italian admitted that Ferguson could go on to do great things with Brighton.

"Ferguson is 18, but we have to control the age because he seems not like a normal 18-year-old," said the Italian.

"He is a great player, he is already a great player, and I think he will become one of the best players, the best strikers in the Premier League."

"And I would like it if he can stay with us for a lot of years."

Ferguson himself also had high praise for his manager and revealed that it was 'exciting' to work under him.

"When you have managers like that looking, it says a lot. We do a lot of stuff out on the training pitch, and it's the gaffer's ideas, and we're just trying to play our way. It's exciting, yeah," added the Ireland star.

Brighton plays Manchester City tonight in what is essentially a dead rubber for both teams.
