Two 'professional British footballers' arrested in Ibiza on suspicion of sex assault on teenage tourist

TWO professional UK footballers have been arrested in Ibiza on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old tourist.

The men, reportedly on the books of a London area club, were held yesterday at a hotel in Cala de Bou near the party resort of San Antonio.

According to local reports, Spanish National Police were alerted by the parents of the young woman, who is also British.

The hotel where the arrests occurred has not been named.

The footballers, who are said to have been holidaying with teammates, were described as "second division players" in Spanish media.

The Periodico de Ibiza newspaper reported that a group of players had invited the complainant and another woman back to their hotel after meeting them during a night out in San Antonio.

Another local paper claimed police were searching for a third man who has not yet been located.

The two arrested men are expected to appear before an investigating magistrate at a closed court hearing shortly.
