Young Celtic superfan Jay Beatty target of 'online abuse'

A TEENAGER has been arrested over an alleged offensive social media post about young Celtic superfan Jay Beatty, who has Down’s syndrome.

The 11-year-old Armagh native was believed to be the subject of an abusive post on social media on Friday, September 4.

He is an official ambassador of the club charity, Celtic FC Foundation.

Police Scotland said a 14-year-old boy had been reported to the Children's Reporter in connection with the incident.

Earlier this year Jay was presented with Scotland’s Goal of the Month award at Celtic Park.

The crowds cheered him on as he was given the award on the pitch at half time by Celtic’s Charlie Mulgrew.

Jay won 97 per cent of the votes for his penalty at half time during Celtic’s victory over Hamilton earlier this year.
