Gallagher Group doubles concrete production capacity with new acquisitions

THE Gallagher Group has doubled its cement production capacity with the acquisition of four new ready-mix plants from Cemex UK.

Headquartered in Aylesford, Kent, the family-run Irish firm was founded in 1973.

Their recent purchase – which marks their first external acquisition in nearly 50 years of business – will see them extend their existing ready-mix supply network to provide a countywide service.

It takes Gallagher’s total number of concrete plants from two to six - more than doubling its annual production capacity.

Their customers will also now be able to deal directly with their local plant and sales team, rather than having to go through a remote central office.

All existing staff at the new sites, which are located in Tunbridge Wells, Sittingbourne, Margate and Dover, will be retained, the company has confirmed, although new driver, supervisory and management roles are also being created.

The newly acquired plants join the company’s existing sites at Maidstone and Ashford.

Sean Connor, Managing Director at Gallagher Aggregates, explained what has driven the move.

“For some years, our ready-mix concrete customers have been asking us to spread our net wider,” he said.

“These new acquisitions let us to do just that. We’re more than doubling our concrete production capacity and can now offer our unrivalled service and value to customers right across the county.

“We’re investing significant sums in upgrading these sites, as well as adding to our mixer fleet and taking on additional staff. It’s all part of our fundamental commitment to getting the right product to the right place at the right time and price for our customers, wherever they are.

“We’re responding to our customers’ needs by investing in enhancing our capacity in the market.

“More sites means wider coverage, complementing our county-wide ability to offer aggregates, recycling and muck away, and allows ready-mix customers right across Kent to benefit from our outstanding value and commitment to great service.”

He added: “The values upon which the Gallagher Group have been built, including our commitment to community support, charity work and creating local employment opportunities, will be replicated across Kent, with our customers at the forefront of everything that we do.

“We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues to the family.”

Gallagher Group was advised by Brachers LLP throughout the acquisition.
