Galway firm announces plans to create 140 new jobs

A GALWAY firm that offers research and testing services for life science organisations has announced plans to create up to 140 new jobs over the next three years.

Complete Laboratory Solutions (CLS) — which has accredited facilities in Galway City, Ros Muc, and Dublin — serves clients across the pharmaceutical, medtech, food and environmental sectors.

The company says the new roles at its Galway City facility will bring its total workforce to 400, marking one of the most significant expansions in its 30-year history.

The move, which follows a €9m up-skilling programme, is the culmination of CLS' transformation from a medium-sized enterprise into a fully Irish-led multinational.

"This marks one of the most exciting phases in CLS' journey, as we scale from a national success story to a global player," said Evelyn O'Toole, Founder and CEO.

"Our €9m investment in people and capability is enabling us to deliver end-to-end solutions in quality assurance, lean transformation and quality control laboratory services; supporting clients at every stage of their lifecycle.

"This strategic expansion reflects both the evolving needs of industry and our ambition for sustainable growth.

"With new capabilities, accelerators and a highly-skilled workforce in place, CLS is well-positioned to drive innovation and resilience across dynamic, fast-moving sectors."

'Innovation and growth'

The up-skilling programme, which was supported by IDA Ireland, helped equip the CLS workforce to deliver an expanded portfolio of end-to-end solutions.

Building on three decades of growth, CLS has now extended its solutions beyond laboratory testing to include quality assurance, lean transformations, specialised training and managed talent resourcing.

The firm is now positioned to deliver operational excellence across every stage of its clients' processes, both onsite and at CLS facilities.

"The strategic expansion of CLS in Galway, creating 140 new jobs, highlights Ireland's commitment to fostering innovation and growth," said Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland.

"Our supportive business environment and highly-skilled talent pool continue to attract significant investments."

Recruitment for the new positions will begin immediately.

Roles range across all experience levels, including new graduates, and span science, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, engineering and business analytics departments.

Founded in 1994, CLS is the highest-accredited Irish-led contract laboratory, licensed by both the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In 2022, the firm became part of the British-based Phenna Group, which boasts a turnover of approximately £700m and employs more than 8,000 people globally.
