Emotional Irish badminton player Scott Evans strips off to celebrate his historic win for Ireland

IRISH Badminton player Scott Evans went full on Cristiano Ronaldo on Friday night as he tore off his top in celebration after sealing his second Olympic win.  

The Dublin native hit the headlines over the weekend with his victory over hometown favorite Ygor Coelho de Oliveira in Group K of the men's badminton.

The win meant Evans sealed his place in the last 16 of the Olympics – a historic first in the sport for Ireland.

Evans, the first Irishman to make it this far in badminton at the Olympics, takes to the court at 9:30pm this evening (August 15) to play world number four Viktor Axelsen in his last 16 match.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport, Evans talked about the "insane atmosphere" of his match against Brazilian Ygor Coelho de Oliveira.

"Playing with almost a full crowd against a good player, it was difficult...The atmosphere was absolutely insane, something I had never experienced before,"  Evans said.
