Father Ted star Ardal O’Hanlon is returning to Channel 4 this autumn in a new comedy series about a hard-drinking group of Irish people in London.
London Irish has already courted controversy among members of the Irish community, despite yet having aired.
The show follows the lives of a group of Northern Irish friends living in London who face numerous challenges in their transition into London life.
Carrickmacross-born O’Hanlon described the show as "a fresh, cheerfully outrageous, no-limits comedy. There isn't a taboo that goes unexplored. The writing is fearlessly funny and the cast ridiculously charismatic."
He will play the father of Conor and Bronagh, central characters played by Kerr Logan (Game of Thrones) and Sinead Keenan (Being Human), along with ex-pat friends acted by Peter Campion and Kat Reagan.
Renowned for his role as Father Dougal McGuire in the 1990s Irish sitcom, O’Hanlon has more recently appeared in episodes of Doctor Who and Skins.
The Channel 4 series is written by Derry playwright Lisa McGee who has also scripted episodes for the channel’s comedy drama Totally Frank, BBC’s The White Queen and Being Human and created RTE’s television series Raw.
She also created an original stage play called Jump, which was adapted for the big screen by Kieron J. Walsh earlier this year.
The series is produced by Company Pictures.
