'You can't do anything without offending somebody': Louis Walsh explains why he grabbed Mel B's bum on live TV

LOUIS WALSH has spoken out after a clip of the Irishman grabbing Mel B's bum in 2014 resurfaced and went viral recently.

The 65-year-old was roundly condemned by many on social media after footage emerged of the incident online earlier this month.

In the clip - from The Xtra Factor - the former Spice Girl is seen stopping an interview and accusing Louis of being "inappropriate".

But speaking to Today FM's Mario Rosenstock in an interview set to air in full this weekend, Louis described the incident as "a laugh".

He said: "We’d be sitting there all day on the couch doing TV, and I just grabbed her arse as a joke.

“She was very funny and you could say anything or do anything to her and I loved her, so I would just grab her for a laugh but it’s not PC anymore.”

Despite Mel B appearing less-than-comfortable in the video, Louis said any problem is with society and not with him.

“Everybody is watching everybody, the papers, you can’t do anything on Twitter," he said.

"You can’t say anything, you can’t say what you really feel because you’re going to offend somebody.”

The full interview can be heard this Sunday at 11am on Mario's Sunday Roast on Today FM.
