Michael Fassbender in talks to star in The Light Between Oceans

MICHAEL Fassbender could be set to play the lead in upcoming drama The Light Between Oceans, it has been reported.

The Frank star is believed to be in negotiations to star in the Dreamworks' film, which is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by ML Stedman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Light Between Oceans is set on a remote island off the coast of Western Australia after World War I, and follows the story of a lighthouse keeper and his wife who discover a shipwrecked boat with a dead man and a two-month-old baby.

They decide to raise the baby as their own, but face incredible challenges and tribulations as their love and morality are tested.

Derek Cianfrance (The Place Beyond the Pines) will direct the film, the shooting of which could take place in Australia, and David Heyman (Harry Potter) is set to produce.

Fassbender is currently starring in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and he attended the rain-soaked London premiere of the new film on Monday evening.
