Game of Thrones finale: fans spot plastic water bottles on screen during last episode

EAGLE-EYED Game of Thrones fans have uncovered yet another blooper in the final series of the smash hit medieval fantasy drama.

Fans waved goodbye to Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen et al in the series’ final episode last night, following eight seasons and 73 episodes of fire and ice.

And while the show’s conclusion is sure to have stirred up plenty of debate online, the final episode of Game of Thrones proved controversial to some fans for altogether different reasons.

Bloopers are common enough in the world of TV and film, whether it be the sight of a car in the distant background of one shot in Lord of The Rings or the sight of a rogue extra exposing himself in Teen Wolf.

However, until this final season, Game of Thrones had been largely blooper free.

That changed in the fourth episode of the final season, The Last of the Starks, when fans spotted a rogue Starbucks coffee cup in front of Emilia Clarke’s character Daenerys during one key scene.

Though HBO were able to see the funny side and managed to digitally remove the cup from the offending shot, it would appear that they haven’t learnt their lesson.

Because the final episode of Game of Thrones featured not one but two rather glaring errors, both of which involved misplaced water bottles.

The plastic bottles were spotted by fans at two points during the final episode – first around the 46-minute mark and then again, a few minutes later.

One can be seen tucked just behind the foot of John Bradley’s Samwell Tarly and then later, just behind the chair of Liam Cunningham’s Ser Davos Seaworth.

Though both bloopers will likely be erased from the version of the episode that goes out on Blu-ray, DVD and on-demand, the blemish is only likely to add fuel to the criticism among many fans that this season has been a little rushed.

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has already spoken of the fact he would have preferred the final series to be longer or, better yet, for the show to have had a couple more seasons.

HBO, meanwhile, has made no secret of the fact it wanted the final season to be longer but struggled to tie the cast and crew down to a longer commitment.

That’s been enough to see some fans launch an online petition calling for the final season to be remade with new writers.

The petition has already attracted more than 1.1 million signatures.
