Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson kicks off festive season early as star of Burberry's Christmas ad

IRISH actor Domhnall Gleeson has kicked off the festive season as he stars in Burberry's Christmas advertisement.

The designer brand is celebrating 160 years this year, with cinematic short film The Tale of Thomas Burberry.

Gleeson features in the short film as Thomas Burberry, the founder of Burberry, while Sienna Miller plays his wife.

Dominic West appears as Ernest Shackleton, the polar explorer who wore Burberry for three expeditions.

Lily James also plays a fictional pilot based on Betty Kirby-Green, who flew from England to Cape Town in 1937 dressed in Burberry.

The three minute clip was directed by Asif Kapadia, who won an Oscar for his documentary Amy earlier this year.

The video, which is just over three and a half minutes, features the beginnings as Thomas Burberry's career,  his relationship with his wife and his dressing of explorer Ernest Shackleton and British troops during World War I.
