Manchester Irish Festival hailed a success

This year’s 2012 Manchester Irish Festival was hailed as another major success by organisers.

The city turned green when the Irish community took over to stage the annual festival.

One of the festival’s co-chairs, Kevin Fitzpatrick said: “It has been an exhausting but very enjoyable 17 days.

"The media attention has been phenomenal this year, with journalists covering the event as far away as Australia."

Just over 200,000 people are estimated to have attended one of the 200 events staged at 80 different venues throughout Greater Manchester.

Festival highlights included the annual St Patrick’s Day parade and popular four day Irish festival market and numerous concerts, film screenings, comedy nights, art exhibitions and theatre shows.
