Shane MacGowan's Popes to perform at fundraiser for injured guitarist

THE POPES will perform at a benefit fundraiser for the band’s guitarist Paul ‘Mad Dog’ McGuinness in London tomorrow evening.

The gig will take place at O’Neill’s pub in Muswell Hill on Friday night at 8pm, and will aim to raise donations for Paul after he suffered a serious accident in November.

The money raised will contribute to his recovery, as he is no longer in intensive care and is currently undergoing physiotherapy as part of his rehabilitation.

Originally a crew member for The Pogues – who are performing their 1985 album, Rum, Sodomy & the Lash in its entirety this week – Paul later joined frontman Shane MacGowan to form The Popes.
