WATCH: Colin Farrell unrecognisable as The Penguin in new Batman trailer

THE EAGERLY anticipated trailer for the new Batman film has dropped and it features Irish actor Colin Farrell as The Penguin.

Not that you'd recognise the 45-year-old under the heavy prosthetics required to turn him into Penguin alter ego Oswald Cobblepot.

The trailer for The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson in the title role for the first time, was released this weekend as part of this year's DC FanDome.

It features Farrell in a role previously played by Danny DeVito in 1992's Batman Returns and by Burgess Meredith and Robin Lord Taylor on the small screen.

In the clip, Pattinson's Caped Crusader appears to be battling Cobblepot's underlings, with the villain telling him: "Oh, take it easy, sweetheart!"

It concludes with Farrell's character screaming (prematurely), "I got you" into the wing mirror after Batman's pursing Batmobile appears to have been caught up in an explosion.

The trailer also gives us further glimpses of Zoë Kravitz's Selina Kyle/Catwoman and The Riddler, played by Paul Dano.

The Batman is set for release on March 4, 2022.
