Appeal for witnesses after Irishman found dead in his home with 'car crash injuries'

GARDAI have appealed for witnesses after a man who died suddenly at his Co. Donegal home was found to have a number of injuries.

The unnamed man, aged in his mid-40s, was found unresponsive at a house in Buncrana at around 6.30pm on March 18.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination was carried out at Letterkenny University Hospital.

It is believed that the man died from natural causes, but Gardaí say he had "some unexplained injuries to the body consistent with either a fall or as a result of being in a vehicle that was involved in a collision".

Shortly before midnight on March 17, emergency services were called to the scene of a single-vehicle collision in the nearby village of Burnfoot.

A white Renault van had crashed on Slab Road, but there was no one present at the scene when Gardaí arrived.

Detectives are investigating a link between the van and the sudden death of the man in Buncrana – around a 15-minute drive to the north.

The van has been removed from the scene and the roadway is sealed off to allow for a technical examination of the area by Garda Crime Scene Investigators.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 932 0540.
