Armed men target security guard collecting cash from supermarket

TWO men, one of whom was armed with a hammer, have targeted a security guard outside a supermarket in Co. Meath.

The masked pair approached the guard at around 12.40pm on Friday as he returned to his van having collected cash from the supermarket in Clonee.

When approached by the men, the security guard placed the cash box on the ground and the pair grabbed it before running off.

They headed towards Clonee Court where it is believed they had a vehicle waiting.

The pair are described as 5' 6" to 5' 8" and were wearing black scarves on their faces.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the Clonee area between 12–1pm to contact them.

“We are particularly seeking dash cam footage from any vehicles that travelled in the area at that time,” said a spokesperson.

“Anyone with information should contact Ashbourne Garda Station on 01 8010600.”
