Brave 5-week-old baby boy becomes youngest-ever honorary Garda recruit

A BRAVE 5-week-old baby has become the youngest-ever honorary Garda recruit.

The great-grandson of former Inspector Frank Doyle has followed in his footsteps, becoming the the youngest-ever person to don the Garda uniform.

With the help of the Little Blue Heroes Foundation, a charity which helps seriously ill children become honorary Garda members, baby Calvin Doyle was presented with his very own specially-adapted uniform, a Bravo Bear and plenty of gifts from his new colleagues in multiple Garda Stations.

The honorary recruit has more than proven his bravery, with the "born fighter" currently battling cancer.

Little Blue Heroes shared photographs of Calvin's special day along with a message of support to him and his loved ones, writing:

"Welcome to Honorary Garda Calvin Doyle who is only 5 weeks old. Calvin is a born fighter and is using all his strength and determination to keep going as long as he can in his battle against cancer.

The specially-adapted uniform, which fits the 5-week-old perfectly, was the first of its kind for the charity-- a perfect gift for a unique little boy.

Calvin's grandmother, Anne, was also presented with a commissioner's coin in memory of her father, Frank, who was highly respected in his line of work, and the ceremony was held in line with public health advice to keep everyone involved safe.

A spokesperson for Little Blue Heroes added that they had provided the Doyle family with financial aid to help with Calvin's treatment, "to support the family during this very difficult time".

"Our thoughts and support are with the family especially parents Lee & Shannon."
